Under direct supervision, directs the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI)Program in the assigned regions to
include personnel management, training and education, productivity, work assignments, quality performance and reviews,
and report management. Facilitates and promotes standardization of the CDI program across the region and in alignment
with the system. Manages the admissions and continued stay reviews and assists as needed. Ensures alignment and
support of achieving corporate/service center and hospital goals. Educates clinical documentation specialists and
members of the patient care teams, including physicians, allied health practitioners, nursing, and case management,
regarding clinical documentation and coding guidelines and Milliman criteria. Supports timely, accurate, and complete
documentation of clinical information used for measuring and reporting hospital and physician-based outcomes.
Minimum Education Requirements
Associates Degree or equivalent experience required
Graduation from a program of Nursing, BSN, preferred or graduate of Health Information Management program with a
bachelor’s degree preferred
Advance knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology, pathophysiology and disease
Preferred knowledge of DRG assignments, ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes, regulatory coding guidelines, and Medicare Part A
and Part B regulatory guidelines
Minimum Experience Requirements
3 years experience in case management, utilization review, health information management, and/or coding required;
Clinical documentation improvement and/or clinical experience preferred with ICU, CCU or strong Med/Surg experience
One year supervisory experience preferred
Excellent organization, analytical, writing and interpersonal skills
Dependable and self-directed with excellent critical thinking, problem-solving and deductive reasoning skills
Excellent communication, computer, critical thinking, organization skills and multi-disciplinary tasks.
Exhibits knowledge of clinical documentation requirements, DRG assignment, and clinical conditions and/or procedures
Understand and communicate differences between Medicare Part A and Part B guidelines and how they impact DRG
Advance knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and troubleshooting computer problems
Understand and support compliant documentation management strategies that touches all the critical aspects of the
hospital’s clinical documentation process
Current Colorado RN license or AHIMA certification (i.e. RHIT, RHIA or CCS) required and maintained.
Works with the clinical documentation team(s) to improve
physician documentation. Supports timely, accurate, and
complete documentation of clinical information used for
measuring and reporting hospital and physician-based outcomes
Effectively supervises personnel and CDI program for the
assigned regions to improve physician documentation to be more
specific and timelier occurring at point of service in order to
support the proper assignment of codes, severity of illness,
expected risk of mortality, complexity of care of the patient and
delays in billing. Demonstrates proficiency in managing the
admissions and continued stay reviews and monitoring work
assignments, productivity, performance, and quality. Ensures
alignment and support of achieving corporate/service center and
