Provides clinical nutritional care to inpatients through screening, assessing, consulting and providing recommendations for care. Assists with performance improvement projects and special nutrition projects as assigned, and with departmental supervision in the absence of the director. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education: Minimum of a B.S. or B.A. in foods and nutrition or dietetics required. Must be actively registered as a dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
Experience: 1 year clinical dietetics experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities: Required: Ability to educate, to consult with physicians and nurses, to motivate both patients and employees. Ability to plan and organize and carry through on detail and ability to use tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive issues. Must be assertive enough to convince other people of validity of nutrition information without being offensive. This job may require the employee to be responsible for the assessment, treatment, or care of patients of all ages, including neonate, child, adolescent, and geriatric. Consequently, the employee must be competent in the interpretation of a patient's self-report or behavior, and this information must be interpreted with an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturation process. The treatment of patients should be individualized and should reflect an understanding of the developmental needs and range of treatment needs for each patient.
