Provide skilled phlebotomy, specimen collection, and processing services for the Laboratory. Process and
distribute specimens and specimen batches. Promote a professional, customer-focused image of the system
Laboratories to all customers.
Process and collect specimens from compromised patients using advanced knowledge of collection techniques. Maintain competencies as assigned in areas which include venipuncture, throat and nasal swabs, skin puncture/heel stick, blood culture, Hemochron, Point of Care Testing and nasal suction collection.
Research, select, and order the appropriate laboratory tests according to the health care providers requests. Contact Health Care Provider or order source to request additional information or verification of laboratory orders.
Contact appropriate area or patient for re-draw or cancellation of specimens. Edit or cancel orders and enter documentation comments.
Handle or re-direct phone communication to include courier inquiries, testing questions, and faxing of results.
Explain proper specimen collection instructions to customers and provide collection container(s).
Properly identify patients using two forms of identification prior to specimen collection. Adhere to all primary and secondary labeling procedures.
High school diploma or GED.
Customer service experience preferred.
American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) phlebotomy certification preferred.
Basic knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology preferred.
25 wpm typing skills preferred.
