The Medical Assistant practices under the supervision of a registered Nurse in accordance with the standards of nursing care as defined by Wesley Medical Center and the Kansas Nurse Practice Act. Utilizes observation, implementation and evaluation of delegated tasks when performing patient care. Collaborates with other disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. Utilizes knowledge of patient's age and cultural diversity in the provision of care. Supports the organization's vision and mission.
Implements health care provider's diagnostic and therapeutic orders under the supervision of the staff nurse
Administers oral/parenteral medications and immunizations in accordance with physician orders
Accurately documents care and patient instructions in the medical record
Observes patient's condition and reports progress or significant changes to the health care provider
Recognizes emergency situations and responds appropriately
Schedules procedures/surgeries according to the protocol of each clinic
Receives patient/physician phone calls in a timely manner as delegated by the staff nurse and forwards information to the appropriate staff
Maintains the nursing area, patient rooms and treatment areas of the clinic in a safe and clean order
Required Registration, Licensure or Certification
Current Basic Life support (BLS) verification course, as specified in policy
Preferred Registration, Licensure or Certification
Current Medical Assistant Certification
Required Education or Experience
Graduate of an accredited medical Assistant program
