In this position, the Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for the performance of all cardiac ultrasound and diagnostic studies including but not limited to Adult and Pediatric echocardiogram, M-Mode, 2 dimensional, Doppler, stress echo and transesophageal echo. This position may be required to float amongst various departments in order to meet patient needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Assessment and Care
- Obtain appropriate clinical history and cardiac related physical findings in order to adapt the imaging techniques to obtain the most comprehensive and diagnostic echocardiogram and explains the procedure thoroughly to the patient.
- Ensure the Echocardiogram is of the highest quality obtainable with the equipment presently available and adhere to standards of care and echo cardiology policy and procedures.
Performs Adult and Pediatric echo, 2-D imaging, spectral Doppler, color Doppler procedures TEE and Stress Echo on an inpatient, outpatient, and outreach basis.
Evaluate tests as they are being performed to determine that all parameters and criteria are being met and assists patient in assuming physical position for required examination. Make quantitative calculations from data gathered and discuss test results with physician or request physician to personally view screen image.
Echo Lab Maintenance
- Monitors quality control on the equipment, maintains and cleans suitable equipment, supplies and other inventory
Prepares data for Cardiologist interpretation
Arranges daily schedule of patients by triage of symptoms, time available, physician time request and surgery schedule

Education, Experience and Licensure/Certification Requirements Requirements are representative of the minimum level of knowledge, skills and/or abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position
Pediatric experience strongly recommended
Minimum one year experience in performing cardiac ultrasound including adult, pediatric and Tran esophageal echocardiography or if new graduate will go into an eligible position
Current BLS certification
ACLS certification within six months of hire.
Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi-functional team
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to successfully function in a fast paced, service oriented environment
Experience in understanding and usage of computers, including the Microsoft Office Suite, as well as the ability to learn applications relevant to the position
