Provides oversight to the trauma service program at the facility to assure optimal care for injured patients while meeting regulatory requirements from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the American College of Surgeons. Responsible for daily operations of the trauma program and the achievement of standards related to quality care, patient satisfaction, physician satisfaction, and fiscally responsible care delivery.
Minimum Education Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or related health field Master’s Degree, preferred
Completion of the Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) course from Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine upon hire or within 2 years of hire/transfer
Minimum Experience Requirements
Five years of trauma program, emergency and/or critical care nursing experience Two years of previous leadership experience, preferred Experience with trauma registry and coding, preferred
Current state RN license for applicable state of employment
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
Current ACLS and TNCC upon hire or within 24 months hire/transfer
CSTR Registry Certification upon hire or within three years of hire/transfer
Membership to a related professional organization preferred (Society of Trauma Nurses, Emergency Nurses Association, American Association of Critical Care Nurses, Air and Surface Transport Nurses Association)
Position Duties (essential functions denoted with an * )
Provides oversight to the Trauma Service program.*
Works collaboratively with nursing and other patient care departments in managing trauma patient/family care processes.*
Oversees and assists with preparation of monthly trauma performance improvement committee meetings.*
Pre-reviews appropriate charts and works collaboratively with the trauma medical director to facilitate medical review of charts.
Conducts appropriate review of current trauma literature to support performance improvement initiatives.*
Coordinates preparation for trauma center designation visits.*
Assures compliance with trauma center requirements and anticipates changes in requirements and works collaboratively with the Trauma leadership to make appropriate program modifications/changes.*
Actively participates in and support Centura Trauma System protocols and initiatives. *
Works with Trauma leadership to identify educational needs of nursing and facilitates specific education in conjunction with the clinical leadership.
Conducts outreach education in cooperation with outreach and pre-hospital services.*
Participates in the State EMS and Trauma Advisory Council and/or local/regional EMS and Trauma Advisory Council meetings.*
Responsible for compliance with all regulatory agencies, Federal, State and hospital standards. *
Assists with reviewing and revising policies as needed. *
Serves as liaison between staff and other areas within the facility at large and as an advisor to other disciplines. *
Assist Trauma Director with strategic planning and program development. *
Assists with identifying, development and implementing quality improvement initiatives. Identifies and monitors quality indicators and measurable outcomes. *
Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops to remain current with industry changes. *
Assists in training trauma staff and other hospital personnel. *
Adheres to professional code of ethics and to all accreditation and regulatory requirements. *
Demonstrates effective time management and is proactive in prioritizing workload and meeting productivity requirements. *
Adapts to rapidly changing technologies, policies, regulations, census and staffing through priority setting and flexibility. *
