Transports patients to and from clinical, ancillary, and support department areas as directed by the department. Coordinates transport runs and prioritizes according to departmental guidelines. Transporters interact with ancillary departments, nursing units, and the emergency department and may be required to assist in patient transfers. Hours of work may vary with corporate and departmental goals.
ï¿½ As a team member of the CTD, in addition to the specific responsibilities outlined below, you are expected to demonstrate the mission, vision, and values of SCL Health. ï¿½ Maintains established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety standards, and environmental and infection control standards. ï¿½ Comforts patients and their families by offering support and encouragement; being punctual and attentive to procedure schedules; demonstrating caring and cultural sensitivity. ï¿½ Coordinates the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies. ï¿½ Follows established department procedures to accurately verify and transport the proper patient by visually checking patient identification. ï¿½ Transports patients, charts, specimens, and required equipment to various treatment and diagnostic areas throughout the hospital in a safe and efficient manner 100% of the time. Provides emergency assistance to patients who become ill during transport process until clinical staff can be notified and assistance arrives. ï¿½ Verifies mode of transportation, obtains patient chart, necessary paperwork, required linens, and/or equipment. Notifies nursing staff of patient being transported and the destination. ï¿½ Initiates or assists in transfer process of patients from bed to mode of transportation. Requests and obtains instruction or assistance from nursing staff for patients who require isolation techniques, two-man lifts, bedpan or restroom assistance, or who has support devices requiring special handling. ï¿½ Returns patient to bed utilizing proper transfer techniques 100% of the time to avoid injury to patient and/or self. Verifies that patientï¿½s basic needs are satisfied upon return to bed. Places call light and similar items within patientï¿½s reach. Offers to put away personal items and reports patientï¿½s needs to nursing staff before leaving the unit. Reports patient has been returned to nursing unit. ï¿½ Notifies dispatcher of completion of assigned duties and proceeds as instructed. If a delay problem occurs in transporting a patient, transporter informs dispatcher immediately and proceeds according to instruction issued. ï¿½ Returns equipment promptly to proper location after use using proper infection control procedures. Collects and cleans equipment at designated times per established department procedures. ï¿½ Transports patients upon discharge, helping the patient in and out of vehicles at entrances. ï¿½ Provides direction and other helpful information to persons entering the facility and others while performing transportation duties. ï¿½ Assists in training new employees.
