Summary Medical Lab Scientist Specialist
Performs testing procedures on a variety of biological specimens using manual or automated techniques, and require a broad exercise of independent judgment and responsibility.
Performs diagnostic/analytic testing. Evaluates, interprets, documents and reports test results. Performs and monitors quality control systems and measures. Performs and monitors testing, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting
Complies with good laboratory practice. Ensures lab tests and procedures are consistent with accrediting agency requirements. In cooperation with the Laboratory Director develops lab protocols. Develops draft of standard operating procedures (SOP)
Provides advisory services to technical staff and other specialties. Attends primary operator training for assigned instrumentation. Serves as the technical expert on assigned instrument operations and troubleshooting. Trains technologists in correct procedures of operation, maintenance and troubleshooting
Performs inventory and orders reagents and supplies. Performs validation/method verification studies. Documents method development steps. Recognizes methodology limitations. Confers with lab leadership on unusual findings
Communicates procedure and method updates to coworkers. Acts as designee to assist supervisor with CAP survey. Assists supervisor with Laboratory Accreditation preparedness, annotation of CAP checklist items. Assists supervisor with other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field and graduate of an accredited Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory School.
Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Medical Technologists (AMT) or as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or categorical ASCP certification in a laboratory specialty/subspecialty as applicable to job responsibilities. State licensure if required by law.
<!--[if !supportLists]--><!--[endif]-->Experience with liquid chromatography mass spectrometry method development of small molecules (therapeutic and illicit drugs).
<!--[if !supportLists]--><!--[endif]-->Working knowledge of CLIA and CAP regulations of lab developed test (LDT) test validation.
<!--[if !supportLists]--><!--[endif]-->Knowledge of laboratory equipment, including gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GCMS), HPLC and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LCMSMS), and the ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair said instrumentation.
<!--[if !supportLists]--><!--[endif]-->Understanding and application of CLIA and CAP accreditation rules for clinical laboratory test development and validation, including rules related to laboratory developed tests (LDTs).
