The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is a registered nurse with specialized education. The development of specific technical skills enables the RNFA to assist the surgeon with specific intraoperative procedures that are beyond the scope of practice for registered nurses without RNFA education and training. The RNFA may provide direct care to patients using the nursing process preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively. Participate and actively assist the surgeon in the performance of surgical procedures. Provides aid in exposure, hemostasis and other technical functions to assist surgeon to perform a safe operation with optimal results to patient.
Associates Degree from an accredited school of nursing
BSN highly preferred
Completion of an accredited RNFA training program and/or CRNFA
Work Experience Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years of perioperative experience including scrubbing and circulating
Prefer 5 years’ Operating Room experience in circulating and scrubbing
General knowledge of asepsis, healing, infectious disease process, surgical anatomy and physiology, safety issues and operative techniques
Experience with robotics is highly preferred
Current Colorado RN License ~ Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA)
Current BLS certification required from American Heart Association
Current ACLS certification required from American Heart Association
Certification in Perioperative Nursing (CNOR), highly preferred
Medium Work - (Exert up to 50lbs force occasionally, and/or up to 20lbs frequently, and/or up to 10lbs constantly)
