The Tobacco Cessation Specialist is responsible for implementing clinical aspects of the grant-funded Tobacco Cessation program. This position will provide psychosocial assessment, counseling, education and behavioral intervention to patients identified as tobacco users. The Tobacco Cessation Specialist (TCS) assists the patient in deciding whether to make a quit attempt, obtaining and using cessation medication, and staying abstinent from tobacco. Counseling is provided at bedside and via telephone. The TCS also works closely with the Tobacco Cessation Program Coordinator in collecting and entering program-related data into an electronic database.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree OR certification/ licensure in an applicable healthcare field (respiratory therapist, RN, licensed psychotherapist, etc.)
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
2 years’ experience in a health care setting, preferably in the areas of pulmonary or cardiac rehabilitation or behavior modification.
Experience with some level of smoking cessation or care management for patients or clients preferred.
Strong behavioral modification knowledge; a strong knowledge of psychosocial components and risks associated with tobacco use.
Computer proficiency in MS Office applications and in using computer-based data application/processes.
Strong organizational skills, including multi-tasking, priority-setting and problem-solving.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and as a contributing team member.
Current and applicable to professional field
Light Work - exert/lift up to 20 lbs. force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. frequently.
