Presides over office communications, schedule, and patient accounts. Commands comprehensive knowledge of patient accounts as it relates to scheduling, pre-registration, benefits eligibility and payment. Serves as a liaison between the patients, physicians, patient clinics, case management, centralized billing office, third party Medicaid eligibility vendor and community agencies. Responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the schedule and patient accounts as well as the preservation of confidentiality. Schedules patient procedures, completes pre-registration, and verifies/obtains provider orders, coverage, and necessary authorizations for all scheduled procedures. Assesses patient portion after verification of benefits and authorizations.
Minimum Education Requirements
High school diploma or GED.
Minimum Experience Requirements
One year of healthcare experience.
One year of previous Patient Scheduling or Patient Access experience, preferred.
Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Experience in office support or customer service, preferred.
Knowledge of registration, billing, and credit-scoring, preferred.
CPR (if required by facility).
Position Duties (essential functions denoted with an * )
Commands comprehensive knowledge of patient accounts as it relates to all aspects of facility visits, including, scheduling, pre-registration, benefits eligibility and payment.*
Liaises insurance providers, case managers, central business office, third party Medicaid eligibility vendor, and Registrar.*
Presides over all forms of office communication including, telephone, e-mail, and fax.*
Responsible for all incoming lines, specialty calls, and calls to providers.*
Maintains electronic records, ensuring accurate and up-to-date account information.*
Manages scheduling requests for outpatient tests.*
Schedules patient exams in a timely and professional manner.*
Maintains scheduling system: ensures schedule is accurate, up-to-date, and without conflicts. *
Completes pre-registration: patient clinical data, and patient financial data over the phone timely, accurately and courteously.*
Confers with patients before visits to ensure preparedness and set clear expectations.*
Obtains necessary information for verifications, authorizations, and collection of benefits.*
Identifies and addresses potential scheduling, account, or payment issues.*
Obtains pre-certification and benefits complicit with the rules and regulations of a patient's insurance carrier in preparation for the admission or expected admission of a patient.*
Runs estimator tool for patient portion amount.*
Collects patient portion as determined by patient's insurance.*
Articulates instructions of varying complexity including, directions to hospital and internal departments, documentation, patient portion, and registration process.*
Articulates outpatient test instructions, minding tests that require special preparation. Maintains expert knowledge of all outpatient tests.*
Maintains all established accuracy, quality and compliance standards.*
Protects quality and integrity of patient information with regards to patient confidentiality.*
Applies and maintains working knowledge of registration pathways.*
Applies working knowledge of medical insurance and understands financial implications for patients.*
