Assumes responsibility and accountability for facilitating, communicating, and collaborating with both the healthcare team, and the patient/family to identify and meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the patient. Promotes the optimal health, well-being and safety of the patient through use of the nursing process and in accordance with patient care standards, guidelines and the State Nurse Practice Act. Demonstrates personal accountability for relationship-based care, organizational mission, and core values.
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension during the entire surgical process. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing technique on time. Communicates with patients performing pre-and post-op training. Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies facilitator or Physician of patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents. Takes temperature, pulse, BP, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient prior to surgery and in the PACU.
Document’s nursing history and physical assessment for assigned patients on all forms provided and understands that a surgical procedure cannot be performed unless there is a valid H and P and informed consent signed by the surgeon. Initiates a patient education plan according to the individuals needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician discharge instructions for outpatient surgical patients. Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgery; may assist in surgery by handing items to Surgeon, Obstetrician, or other medical practitioner, ability to Circulate in the OR, work in Outpatient and PACU; Opportunity to take call for PACU, Circulators take mandatory call, Understands the SCIP (Surgical Care Improvement Process) requirements and their role in achieving success with these measures.
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One year experience preferred
Nursing skills and knowledge base specific to specialty
Current Colorado RN license/ Current RN license from a participating state in National Licensure Compact
Current BLS certification from American Heart Association required;
PALS or ENPC
“Required speciality Courses Completed”
Additional certifications may be required (refer to facility addendum(s)
Medium Work - exert/lift up to 50 lbs. force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly.
