Hospital:CENTURA CLINICAL LABS
Schedule: This is a full-time position requireing 40 hours per week
Responsible for oversight of day to day operations of assigned shift or department. Performs all levels of general testing within the analytical laboratory. Provides a high level of technical knowledge and application of that knowledge to department testing and clinical relevance. Functions in a self-directed manner and exhibits complex problem solving skills.
Minimum Education Requirements
■ Bachelor's Degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology.
■ 2 year relevant laboratory work experience
■ MLS with ASCP certification, or MT with ASCP, AMT, or equivalent certification, or specialty ASCP certification
Position Duties (essential functions denoted with an * )
■ Responsible for the day to day oversight of technical associates on assigned shifts. May include pre-analytic oversight as determined by site.*
■ Participate in staff scheduling and monitoring of workflow.*
■ Participates in the coordination and completion of training of new associates and students.*
■ Ensures associates meet all safety, compliance and regulatory standards.*
■ Provide input to supervisors on associate performance.*
■ May participate in new associate selection process.
■ Provides input for recognition.*
■ Provides coaching under guidance of supervisor or director.*
■ Responsible for, or has oversight of compiling various reports and resolution of issues.*
■ May be required to participate in laboratory and/or hospital projects, teams, or committees.
■ Attends department, laboratory, and hospital meetings and forums.*
ANALYTIC: TESTING AND RESULT REPORTING
■ Maintains a safe and clean working environment.*
■ Follows laboratory, hospital, and regulatory agency policies, procedures, and guidelines.*
■ Performs all levels of testing within the assigned discipline with a high level of competency.*
■ Performs job duties in an efficient and organized manner within required timeframe.*
■ Demonstrates knowledge and competency of laboratory computer systems.*
■ Responsible for accurate and timely result reporting, including communication and documentation of critical results.*
■ Utilizes critical thinking skills and exercises independent judgment to correlate and interpret data.*
■ Compiles and reviews LIS reports to ensure all samples are collected, processed, and tested in appropriate timeframe.*
■ Assists with resolution of unusual test orders by following up with care giver, reference lab, pathology, referring to lab leadership when appropriate.*
■ Participates in shift to shift communication to ensure continuity of laboratory operations and patient care.*
■ Actively participates in new associate and student training and orientation.*
■ May be assigned lead responsibilities in various disciplines.
■ Participates in inspections.*
INSTRUMENTATION, MAINTENANCE, AND QUALITY
■ Responsible for analyzer operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and appropriate documentation of activities.*
■ Completes required QC and maintenance, consistently recognizing variances and documenting appropriate corrective action.*
■ Participates in detecting and documenting occurrences that deviate from defined procedures. SAMPLE HANDLING/PROCESSING
■ Acknowledges receipt of blood in laboratory information system.*
■ Receives specimens, assesses priority, assures appropriate specimen identification, and appropriate specimen type. May include ordering and processing of hospital registered and outreach patients.*
■ Centrifuges, aliquots, and distributes samples to appropriate testing area.
■ As Defined by Site:
■ Prepares samples for off-site testing, to include assessing appropriate sample type, container, and temperature. Completes related paperwork and/or computer documentation.*
■ Packages samples for courier transport to off-site testing locations.*
■ Participates in detecting and documenting occurrences that deviate from defined procedures.* STEWARDSHIP
■ Acts as a steward of finances through appropriate uses of supplies, materials, and productive activities.*
■ Adheres to assigned schedule while responding to work load demands and staffing needs by maintaining flexibility.*
■ Recognizes and provides input for opportunities to improve productivity, lab workflow, supply management, and cost containment.*
■ Serves as a liaison with other laboratory departments and hospital services.*
■ Responds to customer inquiries for laboratory results, status of patient testing, test requirements, and other laboratory information.*
■ Consistently monitors Centura email account and provides timely response or action when appropriate.*
■ Maintains inter- and intra-department relations by appropriate communication, teamwork, and cooperation.*
■ Handles and resolves customer complaints in a timely manner, referring when appropriate.*
■ Assumes and demonstrates management responsibilities in the absence of on-site leadership.*
■ Takes call as defined by site.*
