Schedules clinic appointments for multiple physicians. Provides front desk coverage for clinic open/close procedures, appointment scheduling, patient check-in/check-out, telephones and co-pay processing. Obtains accurate demographic and insurance information and registers patients into the practice management system. Coordinates insurance pre-certifications, prior authorizations, and financial counseling, when appropriate. As applicable, codes procedures with the correct CPT and ICD-9 codes for purposes of scheduling clinic visits and in-office procedures and obtains the necessary prior authorizations. Facilitates communication between physicians, patients and other practices regarding scheduling and appointments. As applicable, may schedule pre-op procedures, in-office procedures, process orders and referrals, and/or obtain prior authorizations. Assumes primary responsibility for coordinating and managing the practice management system's scheduling module.
EDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalent.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: None required
SKILLS: Ability to read and write in English, bilingual in Spanish helpful. Strong organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with physician, practices and various hospital departments. Computer knowledge, keyboarding skills, switchboard skills and the ability to operate general office equipment are required.
EXPERIENCE: Five years experience in related healthcare field with demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-9 coding and outpatient scheduling. Three years experience in obtaining authorizations and payor sources.
