I. Position Summary: The Medical Assistant II provides assistance with patient examinations and treatments, performs various tests, assists with maintaining medical equipment and supplies, and performs CLIA-waived laboratory tests.
II. Position Requirements: A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: MA, LPN, EMT, or Radiology Tech certificate or applicable experience required. IV certification if LPN or EMT only. Current BLS certification through American Heart Association required within the first 6-months and required to be maintained throughout employment at RFM
B. Education: Graduate from an accredited medical assistant (MA), LPN, EMT, or Radiology Tech accredited program or sufficient previous outpatient clinical work experience.
C. Experience: One year of previous medical assistant-type experience. Family Medicine practice preferred.
D. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Advanced knowledge of computers preferred. Demonstrates good organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks. Laboratory testing in compliance with JCAHO, OSHA, and CLIA standards. Displays appropriate judgement and problem solving skills. Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers. Demonstrates excellent and appropriate oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of First Aid. The Medical Assistant must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the patient's life span, possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, interpret the information needed to identify requirements relative to the patient's age-specific needs, and provide the care needed as described in the unit/area/department's policies and procedures.
III. Degree of Supervision Required: Performs essential functions without constant supervision. Practice Manager provides general direction, assigns projects and evaluates performance.
IV. Orientation Period: Minimum of two weeks contingent upon experience. Extensive orientation may be required and will be determined by the Practice Manager.
