A Perinatal Nurse Practitioner (PNNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse with clinical expertise in perinatal nursing, who has received graduate level education and supervised clinical experience in the care of perinatal and women's health issues. The PNNP's scope of practice includes exercising independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment plan of low to high risk perinatal populations, using his/her knowledge base of pathophysiology, pharmacology, and medical therapies in collaborative management with the perinatalogist and OB/Gyn physicians. The PNNP functions in the role of practitioner, sonographer, educator, and research/investigator within the inpatient and outpatient setting.
Current Colorado Registered Nurse License, APN-CNM, RXN-CNMcurrent BLS, ACLS, NRP.
Graduate of an accredited Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Program, with emphasis as a Perinatal Nurse Practitioner, Women's health Practitioner, or Certified Nurse Midwife.
Completion of AWHONN Fetal monitoring as assigned in Healthstream within 1 year of hire.
Able to articulate and demonstrate appropriate nursing theory and advanced practical thinking skills. Minimum of two years labor and delivery experience. Prefer experience in antenatal surveillance, high risk obstetrics, and limited OB ultrasonography.
Demonstrates advanced clinical skills and knowledge, based in maternal fetal pathophysiology and current medical diagnostic and treatment plans. Demonstrates good organizational skill. Provides safe and appropriate patient care within the Standards of Nursing Practice at SMC. Displays appropriate judgment and problem solving skills. Communicates positively and professionally with all external and internal customers. Clinical skills: Limited ultrasound, surgical first assist, and women's health.
