The POC/QI Coordinator plans, coordinates and directs the daily activities of personnel who perform waived and non-waived testing outside of the main clinical laboratory. The POC Coordinator is responsible for monitoring activities, assuring training and compliance of testing personnel, review of documentation to assure quality testing and reporting of laboratory results including QC, PI, worksheets, and result reporting. POC Coordinator assures processes necessary for compliance with CLIA, JCAHO, and/or CAP within the facility. POC Coordinator is familiar with the various lab services available in the hospital and ensures interaction with the main clinical lab. The QI Coordinator organizes, and coordinates performance improvement activities within the main clinical lab/pathology. QI Coordinator is responsible for departmental QI meetings, records, reports and documentation.
Licensure/Certification/Registration: ASCP Certification or equivalent recommended
Education: Bachelors degree in a life science or medical technology
Experience: 3-5 years experience in the field of Medical Technology and Point of Care experience required, including 1-3 years supervisory experience recommended. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Make independent decisions quickly and accurately. Consistently performs multiple technical tasks and assignments independently Ability to assess specimen quality and the validity of test results
Degree of Supervision Required: Performs essential functions with minimal supervision; coordinates efforts on a daily basis with other lab supervisors, RNs, medical directors, and testing personnel. Pathologist(s) serve as a clinical resource. Meets regularly with Lab Manager.
Orientation Period: Minimum of four weeks. May be modified at the discretion of the manager.
