JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for monitoring the overall services, developing quality and performance indicators, gathering data for analysis as well as ensuring continuous improvement to optimize services and stewardship of resources. Staffing and scheduling. Responsible for the coordination of clinical research trials. Oversees staff and related clinical operations in department. Serves as a point person for Sponsors, Principal Investigators, and other stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Links mission into day-to-day work, focuses on meeting organization/departmental targets, monitors budget variances and recommend or develop plans for improvement, assure regulatory compliance.
2. Recommends selection of staff, monitor and evaluates performance and accountability of staff. Evaluates competence and initiate performance improvement plans to develop staff, provide meaningful and constructive feedback.
3. Works with leadership to assist in the development of policies, procedures, and enhancements to the delivery of services, and operations of the department.
4. Evaluates protocols and assesses feasibility of proposed clinical trials. Assists with development of study budgets. Ensures all agreements are in place and Institutional Review Board approval complete prior to study commencement. Participates in study calendar build into the CareConnect research module and assists with CMS billing/coding compliance for qualifying clinical studies. Monitors recruitment and financial study milestones. Serves as point person for clinical site monitoring visits or audits.
5. Serves as an expert resource for guidance on human subject research. Provides leadership to the study team to ensure clinical trials are conducted in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations as well as the standards of Good Clinical Practice guidelines and policies and procedures mandated by the study sponsor. Maintains compliance with institutional requirements and policies.
6. May perform clinical research nurse activities (i.e. study start up, site initiation visits, recruitment, informed consent, procedures, visits, maintenance of logs, closeout). Oversees compliance with the management of investigational product including the handling, dispensing, documentation and storage. Completes case report forms/ electronic data capture system documentation accurately and according to protocol.
7. Plans, provides, supervises and document professional nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures. Delegates tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed research staff.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (Required unless otherwise stated)
EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited State Board of Nursing approved program.
Bachelor's degree required.
EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
Minimum of five years nursing experience.
Clinical research experience required.
Previous leadership training and experience strongly preferred
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of practice required.
Certified as Research Coordinator with Magnet approved certification, preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Excellent organizational skills
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Strong problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently in a multi-task environment
Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office applications
Familiarity with health records data base systems is preferred.
