Position Summary: Safety Attendants under the direction of Registered Nurse (RN) assist with supervision, management and Direct observation of patients deemed to be at risk of injury to self or others. Job may include direct supervision of students at the discretion of the area supervisor. Employee must have the same licensure or have completed the same training to satisfy the requirements of the discipline of the student. Direct supervision means the primary caregiver is readily available to the student throughout the shift.
Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification.
Education: Basic reading comprehension required Completion of a Nurse Tech or Certified Nursing Assistant program preferred.
Experience: Previous sitter experience preferred, but not required. Performs in accordance with delineated job responsibilities and satisfactorily completed a yearly evaluation based on these responsibilities. Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively meet the needs of the patients, internal, and external customers.
Special qualifications: Knowledge of medical terminology. Possess customer service skills including listening.
Knowledge of aseptic technique and infection control principles. Able to report change in patient condition, perform effectively in highly stressful situations. Must be well motivated, organized and able to prioritize multiple tasks. Must be able to interact effectively with a wide variety of people. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Able to serve as an example and mentor to other employees.
Degree of Supervision Required:
Involves general guidance and direction by Supervisors and/or Department Manager. The employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
