Position Summary: The Secretary IV performs clerical and receptionist duties in accordance with the philosophy, goals and objectives of Rose Medical Center. The Secretary may rotate to other than his/ her assigned department and will perform only those duties for which he/ she has demonstrated competency. In L&D and the LDPN, she/he performs these duties in the care of Obstetric patient populations. In this unit, the Sec IV performs the following functions: answers the 4 lilne telephone; schedules patients for inductions and procedures, coordinating departments and physician availability. Performs patient admission functions, obtaining accurate and complete information. Transcribes physician orders and creates/maintains accurate patient medical records. Inputs all inpatient and outpatient charges. Checks the Daily Activity Journal (DAJ) on a daily basis. Manages unit supplies, both routine and special orders, to maintain adequate department supply levels. Stocks 12 LDRs, 2 Operating Rooms, and the L&D PACU. Does daily oxygen tank and COR cart checks. Performs word processing and computer skills, including L&D statistics, log sheets, ANSOS and other items on an as needed basis. Maintains attendance records. Kronos editor. Sets up delivery instrument carts using sterile technique. Assists the clinical coordinator with staffing issues, including updating the staffing sheets, calling in extra staff when unit needs dictate, and maintaining old staffing records as required by legalities. Interacts with other departments on an ongoing basis to facilitate optimum operations. Maintains and updates the Policy and Procedure manual. Performs other duties as requested by the nurse manager.
A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current BLS certification through American Heart Association.
B. Education: Graduate of Unit Secretary or medical terminology course preferred.
C. Experience: Acute care experience preferred. Unit Secretary experience preferred. Experience with computers and medical terminology required.
D. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrates good organizational skills. Knowledge of medical and technical terms to accurately transcribe physician orders and complete requisitions. Excellent computer skills, and trained in various computer programs, such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Meditech, and Kronos. Displays appropriate judgement and problem solving skills. Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers. Able to work on on multiple tasks in a chaotic atmosphere.
