The Director of Throughput (DT) helps to coordinate the assignment of patient care beds within the hospital. The DT helps to performs initial admission screens using approved clinical criteria to assure patient admissions and bed assignments are consistent with current policy and procedure. The DT works in collaboration with multiple departments within the hospital and facilitates regularly scheduled throughput meetings with hospital staff to identify and communicate throughput issues. The DT will identify, trend, and report barriers to patient throughput. The DT helps to ensure the efficiency of patient flow through the facility.
Responsibilities include fiscal, human resource, and operational function
Demonstrates the ability to adapt technique/treatment to age of population served, including newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, while providing care/service with respect to cultural differences and spiritual needs.
Facilitates patient throughput with an ongoing focus on quality and efficiency
Prioritizes bed requests, coordinates bed reservations, and assigns bed reservation holds timely for all admissions and transfers in the hospital
Educates nurses, physicians, and ancillary staffs in level of care and bed placement issues
Through effective and professional communication, acts as a liaison between and with physicians, patient / family, hospital staff and patient care areas, and outside agencies in an effort to promote efficient patient flow
Responsively monitors facility triggers and capacity / occupancy and initiates actions to mitigate facility saturation
Facilitates daily bed management meeting and effectively communicates resources and issues to appropriate areas of the facility
Provides leadership and representation on executive committees (Med Exec, Administration, etc.), serves as communications specialist for physician stakeholders
Identify gaps and opportunities in departmental process mapping of current state and the future state workflow
Provide system and operations expertise for implementation of process & system changes
Demonstrates knowledge of regulatory requirements, HCA Ethics and Compliance policies, and quality initiatives; monitors self compliance and implements process changes to ensure compliance to such regulations and quality initiatives as they relate to the provision of Bed Management Services
Tracks and trends barriers to patient flow; makes recommendations and develops action plans to improve processes and systems
Participates in special projects as needed
