Reporting to the CFO, the Bed Management Director (BMD) is responsible for ensuring the appropriate placement of patients throughout the hospital, and works with Case Management, Nursing, Environmental Services and any other department in order to proactively plan for patient admissions, discharges and transfers for effective patient flow. The BMD conducts frequent rounds to identify actual and potential bed availability, and actively participates and contributes to organizational initiatives that impact patient flow and reduce barriers to effective patient throughput.
Leads the facility Bed Management Program while maintaining the highest possible standards of quality and patient care
Supervises patient throughput by managing bed availability and assignments
In conjunction with facility leadership, sets guidelines and adherence to practices related to patient flow from admission to discharge
Coordinates discharge planning and patient transfers as required
Prioritizes bed requests, coordinates bed reservations and assigns bed reservation holds timely for all admissions and transfers in the hospital
Proactively monitors capacity and initiates actions to mitigate patient hold issues
Through effective and professional communication, acts as a liaison between Case Management, Environment Sciences, patient / family, hospital staff and patient care areas in an effort to promote efficient patient flow
Facilitates daily bed management meetings and effectively communicates resources and issues to appropriate areas of the facility
Understands patient flow and develops policies for improving the throughput process
Reviews bed management reports on a daily basis to identify areas of opportunity for improvement
RN with current Florida licensure or recognized Compact Licensure (subject to Florida State Licensing Requirements, including/not limited to ongoing eligibility and duration provisions)
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Business or related field
3 years nursing experience in acute care setting required.
Previous experience in bed management strongly preferred
Experience with Meditech systems strongly required
Competent in the application of medical necessity criteria (i.e., InterQual®)
