Summary: Provides leadership for staff, ensuring adequate resources, equitable distribution of work, problem solving and staff development.
Responsibilities: Supervises employee productivity and utilization; schedules clinical staff into individual physician clinics. Evaluates staff performance. Assists with disciplinary situations. Maintains efficient patient flow. Monitors work performed to meet practice standards. Coordinates minor surgical and laser procedures.
Administers medications per protocol, assesses effects, and documents care. Ensures patient safety. Coordinates continuing education and training activities. Assists with physician participation in ophthalmic technical education.
Provides education and technical demonstrations to students and staff. Assists in orienting and mentoring staff. Assists with quality control and maintenance of equipment and supplies, stocks supplies, and performs minor equipment repairs.
Coordinates repairs with engineering. Reports major equipment malfunctions.
Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
Credentials: * Basic Life Support * Certified Ophthalmic Assistant * Certified Ophthalmic Tech * Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist
Minimum Required Education: High school diploma or GED. Preferred: Associate's degree.
Required Licensure/Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider.Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT).
Minimum Experience: 5 years of experience.
IF APPLICABLE: BLS through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in-hand before start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty days of hire. All life support certification cards must be issued by either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer. (American Red Cross for the Professional Rescuer is only good upon hire and all renewals will need to be through an American Heart Association sanctioned course.)
