Position Summary: This position supports themission of Presbyterian/St Luke’s Medical Center of optimizing the quality oflife of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needsto the needs of the whole person. The SpeechPathologist, under the supervision of the manager, evaluates patients;plans, implements, and modifies treatment programs; participates in dischargeplanning; performs administrative duties; participates in PI; pursuesprofessional growth; and assists with student education. When need arises, will perform other dutiesas assigned by supervisor. Oversees thework of clinical fellows, students and volunteers.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current Certificate of Clinical Competence orworking toward a Certificate of Clinical Competence. BLS and FIMS certifications required within6months of hire.
Education: Master’sdegree in Speech Language Pathology
Experience:Acute care hospital experience required.
Special Qualifications: Ability tocommunicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare team members. Ability to work withothers within a team to ensure quality patient care. Strong critical thinking skills. Ability to communicate with patients usingauditory Input and Output.
Degree of supervision required: Involves generalguidance and direction by the Director and Manager. Workload is the responsibility of thetherapist. Employee will be expected toperform most job duties independently and in accordance with establisheddepartmental and hospital policies and procedures. Work performance is reviewed by peers andmanagers.
Ages of Patients Served: Thisposition requires knowledge of growth and developmental needs of patients andfamilies. Personnel in this positionmust recognize and respond to the behaviors of patients and families in eachage category. The employee must be ableto demonstrate the special skills required to care for patients and theirfamilies according to standards. (Theskills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education,training or experience.)
