Position Summary: Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the Technician is responsible for performing tasks related to the delivery of pharmaceutical services. Except for the initial interpretation of a prescription or chart order and the final evaluation of a finished dosage formulation that require the discretion and judgment of a licensed pharmacist, these tasks may include non-sterile batch compounding, maintaining re-packaging records, sterile compounding, stocking automated dispensing equipment, unit dose drug preparation, delivering medications to patient care areas or other areas of the medical center, checking medication storage areas for outdates, billing and crediting.

A.Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred within one year of hire.
B.Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Continuing education to maintain certification.
C.Experience: None required but previous experience in a pharmacy setting preferred.
D.Special Qualifications: None.
Degree of supervision required: Except for those tasks related to the preparation of a finished dosage formulation for final evaluation that is supervised by a licensed pharmacist, the technician is expected to perform most duties independently under the general guidance and direction of the Director of Pharmacy and Operations Manager.
Ages of Patients Served: This position requires knowledge of growth and developmental needs of patients and families. Personnel in this position must recognize and respond to the behaviors of patients and families in each age category. The employee must be able to demonstrate the special skills required to care for patients and their families according to standards. (The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training or experience.)
