This positionsupports the mission of The Medical Center of Aurora and CentennialMedical Plaza of optimizing quality of life of all those served by expandingbeyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the wholeperson.
ThePatient Safety Attendant performsassigned tasks and activities according to skill level and patient needs asassessed by the Registered Nurse (RN). The Patient Safety Attendant supports nursing personnel in providingsafety monitoring/ assistance to patients.
Remains at bedside of assigned patient at all times unlessrelieved by an appropriate staff member.
Maintains visual observations at all times. Accompanies patientwhen diagnostic testing is required.
Assists in calming and/or reorienting patient in cases ofagitation or confusion.
Immediately reports any potentially dangerous behavior orconcerning conversations to the nurse.
Immediately summons the nursing staff if the patient requiresassistance, control, or other nursing interventions or exhibits unusualbehavior or verbalizations.
Seeks help or advice as soon as possible when patient appears topose a threat to themselves or others.
Participates in a collaborative identification and reporting ofpatient safety issues.
Assures patient environment safe. Removes visible hazards and/orbroken equipment from immediate environment and reports as appropriate.
Assists with keeping patient's room clean, safe and orderly.
Participates in hand-off of pertinent information/behavior aboutassigned patient when arriving on unit and upon completion of shift assignment.
Arranges meal break times with nurse and informs nurse prior to leavingpatient for any reason in order that relief is provided to ensure constantpatient observation. Patient is to not be left alone.
Assists patient with ordering dietary tray, setting up ofpatient's meal trays, basic positioning of patient and ambulation if patient isstable and gait has been previously determined safe by assigned staff nurse.
May assist with ADLs, if deemed competent.
May assist the PCT or RN with ambulation if directed to by the RN.
Seeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard fromroom and reports findings to Charge Nurse/RN
Maintains documentation of patient throughout shift per hospitalpolicy/guidelines.

BLS – Basic Life Support with AmericanHeart Association - required.
High school diploma or GED required.
Six months Patient Safety Attendantexperience preferred.
General knowledge of basic clinicalpractices, procedures, and standards.
Ability to work with others as a teamto ensure quality patient care along with good interpersonal skills.
