Performs assessment and therapeutic modalities for infant,children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients as ordered or directed bya physician. Monitors environmental control systems, patients on mechanicalventilation, Bipap, CPAP, and various oxygen support systems. Responsible formaintaining secure and patent patient airway to include performing nasal,nasotracheal, endotracheal and oral suctioning, Pulmonary function testing,blood gas analysis, nebulized medication therapy, chest physiotherapy, andoxygen therapy delivery in various modalities. Also performs EKGs. Recognizeslife- threatening situations and initiates appropriate response.Provides Bag/value/mask ventilation, andother accepted treatments to maintain a patent airway. Recognizes medicalproblems and reports/documents problems to physician in a timely manner.Administers diagnostic testing procedures to determine the extent of patient’simpairment and appropriateness of treatment and ventilation parameters. Inaddition to the performance of all routine respiratory procedures, theRespiratory Practitioner will be responsible for special procedures, withinhis/her scope of practice, maintaining and improving clinical competence,practicing universal precautions, maintaining and cleaning equipment, andperforming other duties as deemed necessary. Understands pharmacologicalindications, dosages and response to adverse drug reactions. Provides educationto patients, families, physician, nursing and other members of the health careteam. Respiratory Therapist isresponsible for developing and maintaining physician and hospital staffrelations and patient satisfaction to be monitored by the Director/Manager and/or Clinical Coordinator) through mutually agreed upon goals. BLS, ACLS, PALS and NRP must be American Heart
Two years recent Acute Care Experience Preferred
Must possess and maintain skills to be eligible for staffing in the Intensive Care Units, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the ER, floor therapy and provide special procedures. Must display effective written and verbal skills in order to communicate in a clear, concise manner with physicians, staff, and patients. Must possess assessment skills, knowledge of respiratory principles and procedures to coordinate and implement appropriate Respiratory Care to patients.
