Position Summary: This position may function in the Patient Care Tech (PCT), TelemetryTech or Unit Secretary role.The PCT performsassigned tasks and activities according to the skill level and patient needs asassessed by the RN.The Patient CareTech supports nursing personnel in providing care to patients and assists withproviding a safe, quiet, clean and organized environment for healthcaredelivery.
The Telemetry Tech monitorspatient’s ECG waveforms, ETCO2, and continuous pulse oximetry (spO2) from acentralized monitoring room.The monitortechnician supports nursing personnel by continuous observation of ECG, ETCO2,and spO2.The monitor technicianprovides the ability for immediate alert of the RN of alarms and watches forsubtle monitor and parameter changes that may occur prior to criticalevents.The monitor technician notifiesthe primary RN or charge RN when patient parameters and waveforms are outsideof established parameters. The tasks and responsibilities include:
Interprets Rhythms and Arrhythmias
Reports all significant changes in heartrate, rhythm, ETCO2 values, and de-saturations to the primary RN or charge RNon the unit in accordance to unit guidelines.
Maintains all telemetry supplies.
Documents patient condition in thecomputer documentation system at required intervals.
Performs all duties with fullunderstanding of related age specific factors.
Orients and Mentors new staff.
Demonstrates full knowledge of allparameter value limits (critical high and low) and ECG changes that warrantnotification of RN.
Prints rhythm strips on admission, everyshift, and with changes for all ECG monitored patients , interprets, andprovides to units for RN co-signature.
Demonstrate ability to communicateeffectively and work with others as a team to ensure quality patient care.
Demonstrate strong critical thinkingskills.
Additional duties as assigned.
Theunit secretary performs assigned tasks and activities that include the clericalfunctions such as transcription of orders, computer data entry, maintenance ofpatient activities for the records, telephone answering and unit reception.

Education:High SchoolDiploma or GED required. Successful completion of a Basic ECG/Arrhythmiacourse required.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:NursingAssistant Certification or EMT Certification. Current BLS certification required.
Experience: One year healthcare experience required.Unit Secretaryin an acute care setting, Paramedic or EMT experience, and Cardiac monitoringexperience preferred.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities: Demonstrates good organizational skills.Sufficient knowledge of medical and technicalterms to accurately transcribe physician orders and complete requisitions.Displays appropriate judgment and problemsolving skills.Communicates positivelyand professionally with all internal and external customers.Competent skills to operate monitor systemsand computer.Demonstrated ability tointerpret cardiac rhythms, heart rate, ETCO2, SpO2, and arrhythmias andcommunicate abnormalities to nurses and physicians. Ability to interpretcardiac rhythms, heart rate, and arrhythmias and communicate abnormalities tonurses and physicians.Knowledge ofbasic clinical practices, procedures, and standards.Ability to work with others as a team toensure quality patient care.Basicknowledge of computer systems and good interpersonal skills.Strong critical thinking skills.
Degree of Supervision Required:Involvesgeneral guidance and direction by the Patient Care Director, Nurse Manager,Unit Charge Nurse, or Staff RN.Employeewill be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordancewith established departmental and hospital policies and procedures. PCT duties under supervision of RegisteredNurse.
