Cardiac catheterization is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure to study how well your heart is working by passing a catheter (a thin, flexible tube) through your blood vessels to reach your heart.
This procedure enables our cardiologists to diagnose any structural heart problems or cardiovascular diseases and then develop the best course of treatment.
In addition to providing information on how your heart is performing and identifying problems, cardiac catheterization is used to perform a variety of cardiac treatments.
Diagnostic and interventional procedures performed using cardiac catheterization include:
Transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE)
Implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD)
The Cath Lab RN oversees and directs the care of the cardiac patient. The Cath Lab RN is responsible for the care of cardiac cath patients. Serves as primary nurse leading the collaboration of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care. Oversees and directs the care of assistive personnel, maintaining final accountability for the care given to assigned patients. When the need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current licensure in the State of Colorado as a Registered Nurse; BLS & ACLS – Healthcare provider required.
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Experience: One-year experience in acute care preferred.
Special Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other health care team members. Ability to manage a team and work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care. Strong critical thinking skills.
Degree of supervision required: Involves general guidance and direction by the Patient Care Director and Clinical Coordinator. Employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
