Summary: Assists RNs in providing wound care. Coordinates setting up trays, assisting with dressing changes, discarding soiled supplies and cleaning equipment. May transport patients, obtain vital signs, assist in equipment set-up, manage supplies and equipment and apply and remove splints.
Responsibilities: In conjunction with the RN caring for patient, prioritizes and organizes burn dressing changes. Assists in performing wound care. Cleans area and equipment. Utilizes clean technique for dressing changes and observes appropriate infection control precautions. Maintains supplies based on progress of wound care. May assist in collecting specimens, use specialized equipment, restraint monitoring and patient elimination procedures.
Uses, stores and maintains shower carts, shower room hydrotherapy tub, plinth, electrocautery unit, critical care bed sling scale, patient warmers, specialty beds, gurneys, and blanket/fluid warmer. Assists the RN in replacing suction canisters; stocking rooms; emptying trash, linen and Foley bags; weighing patients; making beds; transporting patients; transferring patients.
Assists Physical and Occupational therapists with ROM, splints, and exercise plans. Assists in positioning patient with complex mobility needs. Assists in orienting and mentoring staff. Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisors. Maintains inventory according to appropriate PAR level. Performs clerical duties.
Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards. Demonstrates appropriate emergency and patient safety procedures. Meets unit specific clinical competencies that may include instruction in advanced skills.
Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
Credentials: Essential: * Basic Life Support * Certified Nurse Asst * Surgical Tech
Other information: Minimum Required Education: High School diploma or GED. Required Licensure/Certification: Surgical Technologist. Certified Nursing Assistant. Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider. Minimum Experience: Current acute care and/or long term care, nursing assistant experience.
Preferred: Critical Care experience, Burn experience.
IF APPLICABLE: BLS through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in-hand before start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty days of hire. All life support certification cards must be issued by either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer. (American Red Cross for the Professional Rescuer is only good upon hire and all renewals will need to be through an American Heart Association sanctioned course.)
