This position is responsible for providing shared scientific resources for researchers inside (and in some cases outside) Banner Research. The director works with other principal investigators and others to ensure high quality service standards. Additionally, this position provides leadership in conjunction with other organizational leaders to further the strategies, goals and success of all organizational research.
Directs the planning and implementation of the scientific core facility and maintains performance standards. Develops and maintains policies and procedures, as well as written guidelines, to establish and communicate requirements for the appropriate use of the core facility.
Participates in writing and submitting successful grant proposals to various government, private, and pharmaceutical agencies in order to assist the Institutions ability to receive research funding. Also participates in the writing of scientific abstracts and manuscripts related to new research findings or methodological developments involving use of the core resources.
Responsible for maintaining high quality research by identifying and evaluating fundamental methodological, operational and procedural issues and providing expert strategy and direction to senior research management on matters that may impact a successful research environment. Directs the conduct of the projects and participates in reporting the research findings in the form of peer-reviewed publications.
Forms collaborative relationships both inside and outside of the Institution, in order to increase research capabilities, resources, and funding opportunities. Looks for and pursues opportunities to collaborate scientifically with other internal scientists, physicians and staff members.
Develops and oversees the department budget and expenditures in conjunction with research goals and objectives. Effectively manages resource planning, allocation and expenditures to meet materials, labor and expense budgeted parameters.
Presents data at scientific conferences, and participates in local speaking requests in order to provide information to the community and encourage participation in organizational research programs.
Contributes time to institute committees, projects and fundraising activities.
Ensures initial and continuing competency of staff under their respective responsibility (initiates recruitment, selection, and provides for training, development, coaching, and motivation of employees). Further, maintains and encourages a positive working environment through a variety of communication systems, positive recognition, intervention and practices resignation recovery.
Must possess a Ph.D. or M.D., and appropriate post-doctoral training.
Requires at least 8 years of scientific accomplishment, , and progressively responsible laboratory management experience in a basic research environment. Analytical skills are required to integrate and interpret data. Ability to develop a vigorous and productive research program. Must be able to effectively communicate with employees, other scientists, and department heads. Strong interpersonal skills are required. Demonstrate leadership ability with excellent writing and communication and facilitation skills.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
