Department: Memorial Hospital Central LifeLine Air
FTE Status: Full Time (36 hours/week, 72 hours/pay period)
Summary: Assesses and manages critically ill patients during transport by ground or rotor.
Responsibilities: Assesses nature and extent of illness or injury to prioritize medical procedures or the need for assistance. Responds to 9-1-1 and disaster needs as applicable. Works under stress caused by emergencies, danger, or criticism. Makes judgments; solves problems.
Restores and stabilizes heart rhythm on pulseless, non-breathing patients as directed by a physician. Monitors cardiac patients using electrocardiographs. Monitors chest tubes and automated transport ventilators. Initiates intravenous fluids. Performs endotracheal intubation. Performs drug calculations and administers injections of medications.
Monitors drips, colloids and blood products initiated by RN or transferring facility. Gives initial treatment at emergency scenes; takes vital signs. Assists in extricating trapped victims. Drives the ambulance to and from scenes and treatment centers.
Maintains ambulances, stations, and equipment. Provides public education presentations. May assist with triage and monitoring of patients in waiting rooms. Acts as a member of the code, trauma and nurse response teams.
Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
Minimum Required Education: High school diploma or GED.
Required Licensure/Certification : National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) as determined at position level. Colorado EMT-P certification. Flight Paramedic Certification (FP-C) within 2 years of hire for Southern CO. Valid driver's license.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider . BLS through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in-hand before start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty days of hire. All life support certification cards must be issued by either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer. (American Red Cross for the Professional Rescuer is only good upon hire and all renewals will need to be through an American Heart Association sanctioned course.)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Required within 1 year:Neonatal Resuscitation (NPR). Transport Professional Advanced Trauma Course (TPATC) or Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or an advanced trauma course. Pediatric Education for Prehospital Providers (PEPP) or an Advanced pediatric trauma course
Minimum Experience: 3 years' paramedic experience. Preferred: 2 years of ICU/Emergency Department experience.
