The Student Nurse Tech supports the mission of Presbyterian/St Luke’s Medical Center of optimizing quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. The Student Nurse Tech assists in the provision of individualized nursing care based on the developmental needs of the patient under the direction of a registered nurse and in accordance with the standards of nursing care and practice. The Student Nurse Tech is responsible for obtaining and charting of vital signs HR, BP, temp, RR, assisting with ADL’s, and measuring of I’s and O’s. In addition, they will start and discontinue IV’s and Foley catheters and dressing changes.
Education: Must be currently enrolled in an approved school of nursing; successful completion of at least one full semester of clinical nursing that includes nursing fundamentals.
Experience: Must have experience in nursing fundamentals including starting and discontinuing IVs, insertion and removal of Foley Catheter, and wound care. Proof of competencies required from school of nursing.
Degree of supervision required: Involves general guidance and direction by the Patient Care Director, Nurse Manager and Unit Charge Nurse. Employee will be expected to perform most job duties under the direction of a registered nurse and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
