Position Summary: The Radiation Therapist Registered performs and/or assists with individualized radiotherapy treatments.
Following prescribed courses of treatment, demonstrates the operation of all aspects of radiation-producing equipment to treat patients
Positions and monitors patients for treatment and simulations
Performs treatments and assists the Radiation Oncologist with brachytherapy treatments
Operates simulator equipment
Educates patients and families about treatments including possible side effects, skin care, and dietary requirements
Assesses the psychological needs of patients and their families and provides emotional support and reassurance
Accurately documents treatment records for each patient
Reports any noted complications to Radiation Oncologist
Participates in the improvement of operational functions of the department
Monitors and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of care and practices identifying opportunities for improvement through collaboration
Required Registration, Licensure or Certification
Current registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Radiation Therapy
Current Radiologic Technician License (LRT) by the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) verification course, as specified in policy
Required Education or Experience
Graduate from an accredited school of Radiation Therapy
Preferred Education or Experience
Previous experience as a Registered Radiation Therapist
Required Knowledge and Skills
Technical knowledge of radiation therapy equipment, physics, and radiations safety
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
Demonstrated organizational skills
Demonstrated computer skills
