The BMT psychologist will fulfill a number of duties, encompassed under the scope of psychological practice, to enhance the BMT patient’s experience, and to strengthen the goals of the BMT program. The BMT psychologist meets with new patients and their families for psychosocial needs assessment and examines support and coping resources. As such, they provide counseling to pre-transplant patients as needed to prepare them for the transplant process. They offer psychological support to patients (clinic patients and inpatients) and families during the transplant process, as well as follow-up counseling on an ongoing basis. The BMT psychologist also provides inpatient services to general oncology patients and their families. They act as a patient/family advocate in negotiating the health care system, and facilitate team support of identified patient and family needs through ongoing communication with clinic team members. They develop and maintain support groups to enhance the quality of care to patients and their families. Provides education to patients and clinic staff regarding skills and knowledge specific to the role of a psychologist in a medical practice. Initiates active program of research on psychosocial issues of BMT patients. Communicates skillfully and professionally with patients and their families, with physicians, co-workers and other health care personnel. Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific differences in the patient population, which include late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. This includes physiological, psychological, and developmental differences unique to each group. Documents all communication accurately and appropriately. Displays and models collaborative interaction and a team approach with other members of the health care team to provide optimal care. Promotes discussion of ethical issues that arise in the care of patients. Facilitates employee support groups as needed. Facilitates teamwork and cooperation between clinical staff and other practice personnel. Provides speaking services to groups and organizations to facilitate public understanding of the emotional component of the cancer experience. Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested. Participates in quality improvement activities. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations. Maintains clean, safe, and organized working environment. Follows safety policies to comply with all OSHA guidelines.

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Licensed in the state of Colorado. ABPP certification in clinical or health psychology preferred.
B. Education: Doctoral degree in clinical psychology.
C. Experience: Three years oncology experience preferred.
