Under general supervision, serves as a liaison between the Clinic and patients, performing a variety of clerical duties for the HIV Primary Care/EIS Clinic including: patient registration, insurance verification and billing; appointment scheduling and telephone or on-line appointment reminders; collection of co-pays; timely updating of all pertinent patient record demographic information; telephone answering and clinic receptionist functions. Under minimal supervision, this position verifies benefits information and obtains office visit authorizations. The clerk will actively work with the Retention of Client Care program to link, engage, and maintain patients in care. The clerk may also be called upon to lend administrative assistance to other projects, including but not limited to: updating the team calendar and visual management board, assisting with meeting arrangements for the staff and Community Advisory Board meetings, and working on Quality Improvement projects.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to perform a multitude of duties with great attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in a fast paced environment. Able to type 25 wpm. Knowledge of PC applications; (NT, Windows, Visual FoxPro) and Healthcare applications, (SMS, EDM, Invision, Lifelink). Knowledge of Commercial Insurance referral and authorization process. Knowledge of Ryan White Clinic codes. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Spanish speaker preferred.
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate. Associates degree preferred.
Typically, three years of clerical experience that includes 2 years in a hospital or medical setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
