PositionSummary: This position reflects beginner toadvanced levels of experience and expertise in the area of PhysicalTherapy. Staff functioning in this rolewill participate in direct patient care, staff & program development, andprofessional initiatives. Theseindividuals may serve as a division resource for their particular area ofexpertise.
Demonstratesthe knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for assigned patients. Each service area may require specializedskills and/or serve specific age categories, which may include pediatric,adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Treatmentis provided in compliance with the Hospital and Physical Therapy ServicePolicies and Procedures.
Supportsthe hospital and department at all times and participates in the Department andHospital Performance Improvement efforts.
Assumesresponsibility for maintaining and improving Physical Therapy knowledge andskills.
Demonstratesgood judgment and the ability to function independently and possessesevaluation and decision making skills.
Therapistswith one or more years experience may mentor and/or oversee the clinicalpractice of new graduates and students. All therapists are responsible for mentoring and oversight ofrehabilitation aides, physical therapist assistants, and volunteers.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Employee must maintain an active Physical Therapy licensein the State of Colorado. Employee must have current certification in BLS forHealthCare Providers (in accordance with American Heart Association guidelines).
Education: Graduate of an AmericanPhysical Therapy Association accredited school with a BS, MS, or Doctoratedegree in Physical Therapy.
Experience: Successful completion of student clinicalrotation or work experience in at least one of the following settings: acutecare hospital, long-term acute care facility, skilled nursing facility, and/oracute rehabilitation setting.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Works cooperatively with the entire healthcare team. Evaluates and treats patients referred for physicaltherapy services by a licensed physician or dentist according to theColorado Physical Therapy Practice Act. Communicateseffectively in writing and verbally with patients, families, physicians, andother hospital personnel. Practicessafety measures in all patient care duties. Accuratelyand completely documents evaluation findings, treatment planning and goals,education of patients / families, and discharge planning. Accepts responsibility for formulation of theplan of care according to identified patient problems as needed, acceptsaccountability for the implementation of the plan of care by appropriately andeffectively communicating with team members. Supervisesand directs treatment of Physical Therapy aides and assistants.Patientsmay include individuals of ages from pediatric, adolescent, adult togeriatric. Adjusts assessment andtreatment based upon the age of the patient. Identifiesthe educational needs of the patient/family, determines the appropriateinterventions, promotes patient participation and establishes realisticoutcomes that are re-evaluated on an ongoing basis. Administerstreatment modalities and procedures in a safe and effective manner, based onthe physician’s prescription and the physical therapist’s professional judgmentin an accurate, safe and timely manner. Participatesin functional improvement team, hospital, and department in-services and othereducational activities that help improve the goals and standards of care. Recognizesbehavior or attitudes that interfere with effective team performance andinitiates measures to resolve conflicts that disrupt high quality patient care. Adheresto Infection Control/Standard Precautions while performing all duties. Demonstratesproficiency and working knowledge of all department equipment. Adheresto policies and procedures regarding patient rights. Followsall Hospital and Department Policies and Procedures. Maintainsgood attendance, as well as displays professional conduct and dress at alltimes.Demonstratesunderstanding of Hospital and Department safety and emergency procedures. Demonstratescompetency for all standards on the performance appraisal. Performsadditional duties as assigned. Practicereflects professionalism, maturity, and commitment.
