Position Description: The Medical Sonographer performs imaging studies of various parts of the body to assist physicians in the diagnosis of disease and injury.
Positions and prepares patients for exams according to the type of procedure to be performed
Assesses patients throughout procedures and responds to patient needs as appropriate
Completes appropriate documentation for each study performed, including all computer and PACS functions
Observes safety regulations and aseptic practice techniques to protect patients and staff
Demonstrates knowledge of universal protocols, and uses professional judgment and critical thinking skills when performing procedures
Assists with orientation and training of new staff and instructs students during their clinical rotations
Performs sonograms including Ob/Gyn, abdominal, cerebral, vascular, pediatrics, small part scans, and other necessary studies
Participates in the improvement of operational functions for the department
Monitors and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of care and practices identifying opportunities for improvement through collaboration
Required Registration, Licensure or Certification:
Registry by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers within 3 months of hire
Registry as a Registered Vascular Technologist within 3 months of hire
Current Base Life Support (BLS) verification course, as specified in policy
Valid driver's license
Preferred Registration, Licensure or Certification:
Current registry by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
Current registry as a Registered Vascular Technologist
Preferred Education or Experience:
Graduate from an accredited school of Medical Sonography
One year of experience in an imaging department
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
