Medical Technologist (Medical/Clinical Laboratory Scientist) Section Supervisor resolves quickly and efficiently testing and equipment technical problems, oversees operations and develops recommendations for new or alternative equipment, methods, or materials. In addition to performing regular Medical Technology duties, assigns, trains, reviews and participates in the work of a group of Medical Technologist engaged in the performance of a variety of standardized laboratory tests within a prescribed departmental area. The Section Supervisor ensures regulatory compliance and competencies for the area of responsibility.
Bachelor's degree in an associated science or Medical Technology degree with one year internship in Medical Technology in a hospital Laboratory
Four years of experience as a Medical Technologist preferably in the area of supervision.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to trouble shoot testing, equipment and quality issues relative to the testing in the area of oversight. Good communication and customer relation skills to ensure patient safety and advance the processes in the lab. Ability to perpetuate teamwork, organize and prioritize work to match and compliment strategies of both the department and hospital strategic plans. Has knowledge of the certification standards and ability to measure competency requirements for staff performing testing.
ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathology) or equivalent certification For graduates of 2004 and forward, re-certification with ASCP must occur every third year. All Certifications and Licenses required for this job must be kept current as a condition of continued employment
