The Medical Center of Aurora is a 360-bed HCA hospital just east of Denver, Colorado. The facility is a Level II trauma center known for its 24-hour emergency care, Spine Center of Innovation, and more.
The Electrophysiology (EP) Specialist assumes responsibility for the routine care and maintenance of radiological equipment, in addition, assumes responsibility for quality patient care, maintenance of required cath laband EP competencies and assistance in all aspects of invasive, or non-invasive cardiac procedures.
a. Able to explain all procedures to patients to help alleviate anxiety.
b. Ability to work within a team environment with individuals having similar abilities and responsibilities.
c. Ability to handle emergency situations during high-risk procedures.
d. Good communication skills and ability to teach patients and staff.
e. Ability to interact with physicians during routine procedures, during emergencies and to assist with interpretation of and recording of data collected.
f. Ability to safely operate x-ray equipment.
g. Must be willing to be exposed to reasonable doses of radiation.
h. Must be willing to provide discretion and confidentiality in word and action.
i. Manages to communicate and handle diverse age variations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
a. At all times maintains a professional public image and attitude toward visitors, patients and co-workers, along with the Medical Staff. Shall be courteous, cooperative and use compassion and discretion with regard to patient's right to privacy. Also explains all procedures to help alleviate anxiety.
b. Gives primary and critical patient care and administers necessary medications per doctor’s orders, per physician’s extender, while patient is in the lab.
c. Checks emergency cart and controlled medications and documents per department guidelines.
d. Assigned procedures are performed according to The Medical Center of Aurora (TMCA) policy, procedure and guidelines to include:
i. In a scrubbing, monitoring or circulating capacity assists physicians with percutaneous or cut-down procedures done in TMCA.
ii. Operating equipment necessary to the implementation of all procedures in routine, or emergency situations.
iii. Starts IV infusion lines per physician order.
iv. Maintains adequate records and procedure log data colection.
e. Recognizes EKG rhythms, including intra-cardiac rhythms.
f. Assists in the education of patient’s pre, peri, and post-procedure.
g. Completes assigned supply ordering. Evaluates stocking needs on a daily basis. Checks expiration dates on medications and on re-usable and disposable items.
h. Practices radiation safety. Follows TMCA policies for fire, safety and infection control.
i. Prepares and operates sophisticated radiographic equipment including x-ray table, camera, video recorders, ultrasound machine and pressure injectors.
j. Demonstrates flexibility in work schedule by working over-time, when needed.
k. Supports and participates in in-service education.
l. Processes, files and stores films in accordance with TMCA policies and procedures.
m. Performs clerical duties as assigned. (Example: patient charges, purchase orders, invoices, etc.)
n. Assists in transferring patients to and from the Cath Lab for procedures.
o. Reports to receiving nursing unit all specifics regarding procedure performed.
p. Admits, assesses, recovers, discharges patients per TMCA policies.
q. Completes special projects as assigned by Director.
r. Addresses age-specific duties for adolescents, adults and geriatric patients. This includes, but is not limited to, teaching, safety, privacy, disabilities, and patient support.
s. Monitors and performs daily functions with constant consideration to infection control.
t. Performs corrective/protective actions regarding hazardous materials. Maintains current in the policies and procedures regarding safety issues in the department.
u. Assists with quality assurance, or performance projects, as directed.

Graduate of an accredited CVT program or two or more years of experience as an EP technologist in an EP Lab, or CV Technologist in a Cath Lab.
Current BCLS Certification required.
Current ACLS Certification required within 6 months of hire.
Active status as Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS). If a new graduate, must attain credential within 1 year of eligibility date
One year experience as an EP Technologist or equivalent clinical experience as part of education.
