GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
TheHigh Risk Obstetrical Registered Nurse demonstrates advanced knowledge, skillsand understands the unique aspects of the population served in the care ofhis/her patients. The delivery of careis based on the physical, psychosocial, cultural, safety and learning needs ofthe individual patient. The High Risk OBRegistered Nurse will perform only those duties for which he/she hasdemonstrated competency. The High RiskOB Registered Nurse performs delegated duties consistent with the scope ofpractice and functions within the philosophy and overall plan of care deliverywithin Airlife.. The High Risk OB nurseutilizes the nursing process to independently deliver nursing care tocritically ill and/or injured patients aboard a variety of vehicles i.e. fixed wingaircraft, rotor wing aircraft and ground ambulances. Transports are betweenmedical facilities and their diagnosis maybe a medical/surgical, obstetrical orpostpartum diagnosis. The High Risk OB nurse will assist with marketingactivities of AirLife or HealthONE/HCA when requested. They may be requested tosupport research projects also.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Demonstrates good organizationalskills. Provides safe and appropriatepatient care within the Standards of Nursing Practice at HealthONE andAirLife. Displays appropriate judgmentand problem solving skills. Communicatespositively and professionally with all internal and external customers.
Graduateof an accredited School of Nursing, B.S.N. preferred. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the stateof Colorado. Must be certified in BLS, ACLS,NRP upon hire and maintain throughout employment. STABLE and NCC (core certifications) arehighly desirable. Must have RN-C Inpatient Obstetrical Nursing Certificationoffered through NCC within 1 years of hire.
Fiveyears acute care / specialty nursing minimum. Prefer Labor/Delivery tertiary care experience. Able to articulate and demonstrate knowledgeof nursing theory and practice. Able toarticulate and demonstrate knowledge of critical care transport.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION: Current Colorado Registered NurseLicense required. Current BCLS, ACLS andNRP required at time of hire. Advancedcertification is acquired within 1 years of hire and maintained throughoutemployment.
DEGREE OF SUPERVISION REQUIRED: Able to work independently andautonomously under medical policies/ procedures and Guidelines with minimalsupport or supervision.
ORIENTATION PERIOD: Based on experience and continuousassessment of progress of Special Team Manager/ Program Director, Chief FlightNurse, Educators and Medical Director. Orientation ranges between 16-24 weeks. Orientation includes formal nursingdepartment orientation of 2-4 days during first 2 weeks of employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be able to work in highly dynamicenvironment with exposure to noise, vibration and weather extremes. Must beable to wear Night Vision Goggles (NVG’s) and helmets for extended periods oftime in flight. The weight of each helmet is approximately 3.64 pounds with theadditional weight of the NVG’s of 1.84 pounds.
