Under general supervision, provides goal directed Speech and Language Pathology evaluation, treatment, and discharge planning. Delivers safe and competent speech therapy as ordered by a physician. Provides initial and ongoing assessment of patients. Evaluates patient's abilities and limitations to develop a therapeutic plan for patients with speech, language or cognitive disorders. Therapist should be able to evaluate and treat medically complex pediatric patients (birth to 18) with feeding, swallowing disorders and communication disorders, secondary to a variety of etiologies including: Prematurity (including oral motor intervention), low birth weight, cleft lip/palate, down syndrome, congenital heart diseases, vocal fold paralysis, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, chromosomal syndromes, stroke, autism, apraxia, sensory and behavioral feeding therapy, etc.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Education: Master's Degree in Speech Pathology, or above. Experience: Typically, one year experience in an acute care /rehabilitation setting. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of theory, principles and practices of Speech - Language Pathology. Knowledge of professional guidelines for delivering treatments or application of therapeutic modalities. Knowledge of standards, polices and procedures of Denver Health as they pertain to speech therapy. Skill to properly use medical instruments and laboratory equipment. Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form. Ability to determine and diagnose communicative deficits. Ability to instruct aides in appropriate procedures in accordance with policy and standards. Certifications and Licenses: Eligible for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association at time of appointment. Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider Certification/CPR.
