AIRLIFE provides unique services to a large rural area in addition to providing critical care transport services to the Denver metropolitan area. Rural constituents have limited access to specialized services. The rapid access and critical care services provided by AIRLIFE during transport to higher levels of care have significantly improved patient outcomes for the rural communities. AIRLIFE serves a ten-state region including Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska, Kansas, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, Texas and South Dakota .Helicopter transports achieve a 150-mile radius from our various bases, while fixed wing aircraft enable AirLife crews to transport up to a 500-miles. Air ambulance licensure is maintained in both Colorado and Wyoming, which are home to our operational and crew bases.
Here is some of what you can expect from being an AirLife Neonatal Flight Registered Nurse – with us:
Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skills in the care of his/her patients.
Responsible for collaboration with the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner/Primary Flight Nurse for the care of neonates/infants being transported from referring facilities to Presbyterian St. Luke’s (PSL/RMHC) and for infants transported from other facilities to level appropriate facilities for the patients care.
Must be educated in in-flight and ambulance treatment modalities, altitude physiology, general aircraft and ambulance safety, and emergency procedures.
Utilize the nursing process for assessment, diagnosis, planning and implementation and evaluation of patient cares in collaboration with the NNP or Primary Flight Nurse.
Assist in collaboration with referral teams, Airlife, and physicians in planning and delivering patient care.
Demonstrate leadership abilities through good judgment, decision making and problem solving skills.
Acts as an advocate for clients/family members and referral team. Maintains a professional demeanor through conduct, appearance and communication.
What are the needed qualifications of an AirLife Neonatal Flight Nurse?
Current Colorado Registered Nurse License required.
Must have Neonatal/Pediatric Transport Certification offered through NCC within 1 years of hire and maintained throughout employment.
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, B.S.N. preferred. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Colorado.
Must be certified in BLS, ACLS, NRP upon hire and maintain throughout employment.
STABLE, ENPC and NCC (core certifications) are highly desirable.
Minumum Five years demonstrated clinical expertise as a Registered Nurse in a critical care area to include at least 5 years’ experience in a Neonatal Level IV specialty NICU care minimum.
Pedatric/Neonatal critical care transport experience preferred.
Able to articulate and demonstrate knowledge of neonatal/infant critical care during critical care transport.
Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
Provides safe and appropriate patient care within the Standards of Nursing Practice at HealthONE and AirLife.
Displays appropriate judgment and problem solving skills. Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers.
DEGREE OF SUPERVISION REQUIRED Able to work independently and autonomously under medical policies/ procedures and Guidelines with minimal support or supervision.
ORIENTATION PERIOD Based on experience and continuous assessment of progress of Special Team Manager/ Program Director, Chief Flight Nurse, Educators and Medical Director. Orientation ranges between 16-24 weeks. Orientation includes formal nursing department orientation of 2-4 days during first 2 weeks of employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS Must be able to work in highly dynamic environment with exposure to noise, vibration and weather extremes. Must be able to wear Night Vision Goggles (NVG’s) and helmets for extended periods of time in flight. The weight of each helmet is approximately 3.64 pounds with the additional weight of the NVG’s of 1.84 pounds.
