The Division of Cardiology is looking for a part time PA or NP to provide patient care in the new Outpatient Medical Center (OMC) at Denver Health. The candidate will provide outpatient continuity of care in a general cardiology clinic for the full spectrum of cardiovascular patients including referrals from primary care, post-hospital follow-up and return visits. The practitioner will operate as independently as able according to experience level but will always have the support of the ambulatory team as necessary. Job Summary Under general supervision of a physician, performs professional medical work in the examination, diagnosis and treatment of Cardiology patients according to statutory limitations, depending on their degree (PA, NP). Works with clinical staff, fellows, and attending physicians to provide Cardiology care in multiple domains (Inpatient, outpatient, procedural). Examines and diagnoses patients and develops treatment plans. Performs testing, referral to physicians as needed, writes prescriptions, and performs administrative procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols and available equipment. May perform administrative support functions as required.
Responsibilities 1. Monitors and evaluates medical condition of patient and under the supervision of a physician and in collaboration with other disciplines and standards of care or applying appropriate protocols, make decisions regarding treatment changes. Refers patient to specialized services as needed. 2. Determines and assesses the health status of patients by reviewing records, taking comprehensive medical histories, and performing physical examinations. 3. Orders and administers appropriate medications within the limits of the appropriate statutory limitations or refers patient to a caregiver in a specialty area. Initiates, performs or directs other healthcare professionals to perform screenings and diagnostic tests. 4. Device Interrogation for ICDs and Pacemakers. 5. Provides for Pre and Post Op/Procedural Care. 6. Completes required documentation legibly, thoroughly and in a timely manner. Prepares and maintains complete and accurate charts, case files and records. 7. Participates in clinical education of healthcare students as seen fit by the supervising medical staff. 8. May be assigned to perform lead work and/or involvement in clinical coordination, health station management or responsibility for special projects which may encompass protocol development, management planning, scheduling and other administrative tasks as necessary to support practice environment. 9. Attends and participates in administrative staff meetings. Utilizes the principles and practices of effective communication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programs or policies. 10. Follows established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 1. Knowledge of medical principals and procedures. 2. Knowledge of community resources for appropriate procedures. 3. Skill in eliciting history from patients, performing physical exams and formulating assessments of and treatment plans for patients. 4. Ordering appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis. 5. Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications. 6. Skill in utilizing the principles and practices of effective and persuasive communication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programs or policies. 7. Skill in obtaining information from patients, calming and reassuring patients and motivating patients to accept treatments. 8. Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment. 9. Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations. Ability to prepare accurate reports. 10. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public. 11. A strong foundation in evidenced based practice and education and has a responsibility for ensuring adherence to critical care pathways and protocols and ensures an environment of safe quality care. 12. Ability to demonstrate sound clinical judgment, professional communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation.
Education * Master's Degree (Required) 1. Successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner or physician assistant program.2. Two years' experience in cardiology/cardiothoracic
Experience
1 year experience preferred. Credentials * Physician Assistant (Required) 1. Licensed by the State of Colorado as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner: must register supervising physician upon assignment with the Colorado Board of Medical Examiner's, if necessary. Location Shift Work Type Pay Range Minimum: $49.95 Midpoint: $53.37 Maximum: $55.82 All job applicants for safety-sensitive positions must pass a pre-employment drug test, once a conditional offer of employment has been made.
