This position supports the mission of The Medical Center of Aurora/Centennial Medical Plaza of optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. Responsible for ensuring safe patient outcomes, completion of the daily operating schedule and physician/employee satisfaction. Responsible for scrubbing and passing instruments and equipment during surgical procedures; sets up operating room and supplies needed for day/following day’s schedule; orients new employees and is available for call assigned on a scheduled basis. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge in the scrub role and responsibilities for multiple surgical specialties. Demonstrates good organizational skills, communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers. Knowledgeable in sterile technique, set up and maintenance of sterile field, surgical instruments and equipment. Responsibilities of the Service Line Lead Surgical Tech include, but are not limited to, the following as related to the surgical specialty:
Maintains expert knowledge of service specialty (procedures, equipment, supplies, surgeon preference).
Establishes/maintains direct, collaborative, working relationship with Specialty Surgeons.
Provides new hire orientation to all service specialties for all surgical techs in the Operating Room, including shared employees, agency personnel and surgical tech/nursing/GME student personnel.
Coordinates with the OR Educator, surgical technician continuing education and certification preparation, in-services and competencies on all specialty equipment and devices for the Operating Room and its staff.
Provides and presents a minimum of 2 continuing education opportunities per year regarding specialties’ procedures/supplies/equipment.
Coordinates/maintains accurate preference cards in conjunction with the Supply Chain Internal Control Coordinator (ICC).
Establishes collaborative relationships within Surgical Services (Supply Chain, OR Clinician, SPD) to meet the demands of continuously evolving services, procedures, equipment use, and instrument care.
Maintains/ evaluates necessary process improvements supporting Operating Room efficiencies.
What qualifications you will need:
·Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
·Registration as a Surgical Tech by Colorado Division of Registration (DORA) required.
·Current CST Certification from NBSTSA preferred.
·High School diploma or equivalent.
·Graduate of accredited program for Operating Room Technician.
·Five ore more years experience as a surgical technician preferred. 1-2 years expereince in open-hearts.
