Position Summary: The Referral/Authorization Specialist for Pulse Vascular Surgery is responsible for identifying and securing financial resources for complex, high dollar, inpatient and outpatient vascular surgeries and procedures, outpatient testing and surgical consultation, including authorizations, referrals, benefits and estimates for anticipated healthcare services. The Specialist verifies insurance information (eligibility and benefits); processes incoming and outgoing referrals and prior authorizations; obtains pre-registration information and ensures accuracy as required by patient type and anticipated service; submits and monitors pre-authorizations; communicates Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) as indicated, and works with Vascular Surgeons to resolve pre-service authorization denials.
Minimum Requirements: Three (3) or more years of pre-authorization or referral coordinator experience OR Three (3) or more years of experience processing incoming claims or pre-authorization requests for an insurance payor OR Completion of formal authorization onboarding/training within Pre- Service department performing the principal accountabilities. AND: Two (2) years experience in dealing with the public in a customer service role Medical Terminology proficiency by examination
Education/Licenses/Certifications: AA degree in business or medical records management preferred National Association of Healthcare Access Management Certification (NAHAM) preferred
