Position Summary: The Security Officer and K9 Handler utilizes a canine animal in the performance of his/her duties to provide a secure environment for patient care functions of the MultiCare Health System, Puget Sound Region sites by protecting patients, visitors and staff through the patrol of buildings, property and grounds. The Officer participates in searching activities in response to threats of explosive materials, illegal drugs or missing persons; responds to, evaluates and assists with mitigating any security related issues; trains and cares for the dog, at work and home and responds to any urgent situation in the assigned facility or to any request for assistance by fellow Security Officers. The Officer patrols multiple locations considered a security risk such as emergency departments, main entrances, inpatient care units, behavioral health units, exterior building and grounds, parking garages, pediatric units, and medical and office buildings. The nature of duties requires the ability to report to assigned location upon notification, generally within 60 minutes of primary assigned location.
Minimum Requirements: Two (2) years of experience in law enforcement or public contract security, or one year of healthcare security experience Will consider similar experience in law enforcement or military in lieu of hospital setting Experience with and knowledge of security/law enforcement canine handling is preferred
Education/Licenses/Certifications: High School graduate or equivalent preferred Valid Washington State driver's license and proof of a safe driving record (which meets established MHS Standards) obtained by a motor vehicle report from the appropriate state. Successful completion of K-9 Handlers course within 3 months of assignment to K-9 Officer position Completion of K-9 Handlers course as identified by the Director of Security within 45 days of assignment and successful maintenance of certification ongoing
