Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Residents are spiritual care ministers and members of the healthcare team. The CPE Resident is committed to the hospitalâ™s mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ. The CPE Resident is in an educational program, learning through practice and reflection the art and discipline of spiritual care for patients, patient families, and employees. As the CPE Resident learns, he/she becomes more skilled in the provision of care to those persons â“ from many backgrounds, belief systems and ages â“ from birth to geriatrics. The CPE Resident reflects a diversity of spiritual and professional gifts. Each CPE Resident will have some involvement in providing care in all areas of the hospital, and perhaps on a variety of campuses, and/or may be more involved in a certain area or with a certain age group or demographic than others. Regardless of where serving, the CPE Resident will be expected to learn effective ways of caring for persons of a variety of spiritual needs, religious values, beliefs and practices of all faiths; responding in a way that communicates compassion, empathy, respect and dignity with care. CPE Residents actively participate in outstanding customer service and accept responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectable to all.
