Job Summary
Serves as customer service advocate for NGPG to educate patient and guide them through all financially viable solutions for their portion of medical costs. Researches and works data mining reports to ensure patient does not have any insurance coverage not entered and loads and rebills accounts if coverage is found. Interviews and screens patient in person or by phone for their ability to pay based upon established policy and criteria. Determines patient eligibility for financial assistance and completes appropriate financial arrangements for payment. Collects payments, implements special rate programs, and inputs financial data for patient.
Minimum Job Qualifications
Licensure or other certifications: High School Diploma
Educational Requirements:
Minimum Experience: Two (2) years of previous hospital business office experience
Other: High school diploma or equivalent

Knowledge of Patient Financial Services processes and procedures
Personal computer proficiency to include all programs necessary to perform job duties
Good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal communication skills, including telephone proficiency

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
Determines patient's financial status and completes appropriate arrangements for payment, supporting the financial viability of NGPG.
Demonstrates knowledge of NGPG credit policies by adhering to the requirements when completing Charity Care program forms or making financial arrangements for payments.
Accepts all patient/customer calls via the ACD (Automated Call Delivery) lines in a professional manner, keeping wait times to a minimum.
Maintains knowledge necessary to determine charity care eligibility, and processes application timely and accurately.
Screens/researches for any other source of payment prior to processing charity, including review of Allscripts PM and EHR, HQ/Paragon, HPF, COBRA, Crime Victim, and third-party liability.
Verifies insurance and loads and rebills account following timely billing requirements.
Calculates charity eligibility following NGPG's approval process and current federal poverty guidelines.
Reviews all accounts considered for charity to determine if any accounts should be excluded from application based on policy guidelines and memos and codes billing system accordingly.
Completes approval/disapproval letters and mails to appropriate party accurately and timely.
Contacts patients who qualify for "partial" charity assistance to secure payment for remaining responsibility or sets up payment plans prior to qualification.
Contributes to the productive and effective operations of the financial assistance area to enhance the success of the department and the organization.
Recognizes the importance of and maintains effective working relationships with physicians, their office staff and hospital internal departments.
Participates in training and orientation of new employees.
Maintains expertise in eligibility solutions to enroll patients in programs such as Disability and Medicaid.
Educates patients and guides them through all options to be able to settle their patient responsibilities.
Works data-mining reports to find missed insurance.
