The Buyer at PIH Health plays a critical role in maintaining a customer service-focused, cost-effective, and centralized procurement process for the acquisition and delivery of supplies and services. This position is essential to ensure that patients, clinical staff, and department personnel across the PIH Health Enterprise have the resources they need to provide exceptional care. The Buyer will be responsible for administering and directing programs to purchase materials and supplies in alignment with policy 84000.700 and the overarching needs of the Enterprise. As a member of the PIH Health team, the Buyer will contribute to a network that is nationally recognized for patient care excellence and innovative healthcare technology. This full-time, regular/at-will position is based at PIH Health Whittier Hospital and requires a professional who is committed to the values and mission of PIH Health. The successful candidate will be expected to perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: evaluating and selecting vendors, negotiating contracts and prices, ensuring timely delivery of goods, managing inventory levels, and maintaining accurate records of purchases and pricing. The Buyer will also work closely with department heads to understand their specific needs and will be expected to stay informed about market trends and new products that could benefit the organization. This role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The Buyer must also adhere to all regulatory requirements and organizational policies, and may be required to obtain specific certifications, such as the LA City Fire Card, within a designated timeframe.

Knowledge of healthcare industry standards and compliance requirements
High school diploma or equivalent
3 to 5 years purchasing experience in an acute care health facility
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Experience with computerized inventory systems
Proven track record of successful vendor management and contract negotiation
Familiarity with healthcare procurement regulations and best practices
Must obtain LA City Fire Card within 6 months of employment (PHGSH Only)
Experience in a role that required adherence to strict ethical and compliance standards
Demonstrated ability to work independently and make sound decisions
Prior experience in a healthcare setting is highly advantageous
Understanding of cost reduction principles and the ability to apply them in a healthcare context
Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is a plus
